Oh, those sly people at the US Mint
The Uncirculated version of the American Silver Eagle has been produced by The US Mint at West Point since the 20th Anniversary of the American Silver Eagle in 2006 for collectors. Also known as the Burnished American Silver Eagle due to its matte-like finish and with the "W" mint mark, the mintage has been markedly lower than the bullion version. In 2006, 468,020 Burnished ASEs were produced, and since then, there has been a progressive decrease in production (none were made in 2009,2010). The most recent release of the Burnished American Silver Eagle was May 29, 2019, and only around 118,169 were sold last year, making it the rarest mintage yet for the burnished version. This is a collector's dream to have one, especially a certified, perfect coin on the first day of issue!
